Q. Can I display my tickets on my smart phone to gain admission? 

A. Yes -  we can scan and accept your ticket when its displayed on your smart phone so you don't need to print it out as a hard copy. 

Q. Can I BYO alcohol?

A. No - IMB Bank Sunset Cinema is a fully licensed event. Please ensure you comply with this policy to avoid unnecessary embarrassment on the night.

Q. What time are we allowed to enter?

A. Gates open at 6:30pm every screening night. 

Q. What time does the film commence?

A. The film screens at last light so the actual start time of the movie varies over summer based on the sunset time and prevailing weather conditions. Screenings in Canberra at the start of the season will commence approximately 8:15pm shifting slightly later as the season continues. 

Q. Which movies can I bring my children along to?

A. Movies that are classified G or PG we would encourage you to bring your kids along to. Movies that are rated M should have parental supervision. Child and family tickets are not avialable to movies rated MA 15+. We recommend checking the movie trailer to determine whether you think a movie is suitable for your children to watch.

Q. Are children welcome to attend Sunset Cinema?

A. Absolutely but not on their own. As Sunset Cinema is fully licensed, all children aged 17 & under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Q. Can we bring food & drinks to the event?

A. Yes however Sunset is a NO BYO alcohol event site which is enforceable. Food items and non-alcoholic drinks can be brought onto site, although we would encourage you to treat yourself to some of the delicious food on site and have a night off from doing anything domestic!

Q. Is food & drink available at the event?

A. Yes. In fact we've got a fantastic range of food, snacks and drinks available every screening night. 

Q. What are the seating arrangements?

A. There are no seating arrangements for General Admission tickets. You can hire a backrest or beanbag when you book your tickets online or hire one on-site (subject to availability). You can bring your own seating eg. picnic rugs, cushions, beanbags, camping chairs however camping chairs with high backrests are to be used towards the rear of the venue to avoid them creating sight line issues for patrons seating behind.

Lawn Lounge ticketholders have a reserved Ultimate Bean Lounger and thus do not need to bring or book any seating.

Q. What does a Lawn Lounge ticket package include?

A. Our Lawn Lounge tickets include entry to the event for 1 + a reserved Ultimate Bean Lounger + a bag of Cobs popcorn + a 4 Pines beer or glass of MadFish wine (or non-alcoholic beverage) + Bulla ChocTop. Please note Lawn Lounge capacity is restricted to 50 people.

Q. What are the ticket booking fees?

A. To use their ticketing platform, our ticketing partner, Roller Digital, charge a payment processing fee of 1.75% + $0.30 and an Administration Fee of 1.5% + $1.00 which applies to each booking and is inclusive of GST.

Q. Can I smoke at the venue? 

A. We prefer you don't, however if you have too, you are only permitted to away from the seated area in the designated area. No smoking permitted in the event of a total fire ban. Please dispose of your cigarette butt/s appropriately.

Q. Can I bring a dog?

A. No pets of any kind are allowed at the event.

Q. What is a weather cancellation package?

A. At Sunset Cinema we understand that weather sometimes plays its part in ruining our best laid plans for a movie screening and your best laid plans for a great night out. By adding a weather cancellation package to your purchase, if your screening night gets cancelled up to and including 2 hours after the gates open, you will receive an automatic refund to then choose to either purchase tickets to another night or spend it on something else!

The cost of the weather cancellation package is calculated at 7.5% of your total booking value so that you're covered in the event of a weather cancellation. If you choose not to take the weather cancellation package you will still receive a credit voucher to rebook for another screening night in the current season only (pending availability).

Q. What if the weather is ordinary or a screening is cancelled?

A. The IMB Bank Sunset Cinema is an all-weather outdoor event that will go ahead in most weather conditions. Films will still be screened if it rains intermittently, so bring wet weather gear just in case of showers. If an event is cancelled for any reason, we will advise ticketholders via the Sunset Cinema website, SMS and Facebook with as much notice as possible usually during the afternoon on the date of the screening. If you enter your mobile number at booking you will receive a text notification of any rain-out situation.

If a screening is cancelled for any reason and you:

a) purchased a weather cancellation package when you purchased your tickets online - you will receive an automatic refund within 2 business days (excluding transaction fees). See policy

b) did not purchase a weather cancellation package when you purchased your tickets online - your tickets will be transferable for any other night of our season (subject to availability). See policy

Patrons will not be entitled to a refund or credit voucher if a screening goes ahead and they fail to attend.

Q. What sort of concessions do you offer?

A. To purchase a concession ticket, you must provide a valid student or transport concession card or a valid unemployment, pensioner, seniors or health care card upon entry.

If you have purchased a concession ticket and cannot present your valid concession card upon entry, you will be asked to pay the difference in price from a concession to an adult ticket.

Q. How do I collect/store my tickets?

A. Once you have completed an online purchase, your tickets and confirmation will be sent to you via email. If you purchase a Gift Card, you will be sent the voucher along with instructions for your recipient to follow in order to redeem the voucher at their chosen screening night. 

Q. How do I redeem a Gift Card?

A. Every voucher has a unique booking code and simple instructions to follow to redeem your gift card for a screening night.

As the recipient of a gift card, you will need to firstly select a screening night to attend, then select your tickets. Then simply enter your unique booking code - the value of your gift card will be allocated against your shopping cart with any balance remaining payable. 

Gift cards must be redeemed online for actual screening tickets online - please do not present a Gift Card at the point of entry.

Q. Can I bring my camera?

A. Personal cameras and camera phones are permitted at the event to help you remember the good times - we'd love you to share them with us via Sunset instagram, but we must request that no professional recording equipment of any kind (audio, video or still images) is operational during the screening of the movie.

Q. Is Sunset Cinema an accessible event?

A. Yes however there are several key items to note:

1. It is an approx.10-min walk on sealed footpaths for an able bodied person from the carpark to the event site and involves some inclines. Sunset Cinema has a mobility vehicle available - please wait at the sign at the edge of the carpark and text/call for a pickup.
2. The terrain on the Northern Eucalypt Lawn is uneven and inclined. You will need to assess if additional assistance is required for you to navigate this terrain.
3. Please email us at so we can arrange for the mobility impaired toilet to be unlocked for you on the night (we keep it locked to keep it clean for you) and put in place any other plans we need to to make your night memorable for all the right reasons.

Q. Do you offer a reduced ticket price for carers/companions?

A. Yes - Sunset Cinema accepts Companion Card to enable people with disability, who require an attendant carer, to attend our events without being charged two admission fees.

You need to present your Companion Card when:
1. Booking/purchasing your ticket (if ticket is being purchased at the gate)
2. Upon entry to the event
3. At any time during your attendance at the event if asked by Sunset staff (If you cannot present the card, you may be charged for the normal ticket price).

If the person with a disability purchases a ticket into our Lawn Lounge area, no discount is applicable for a carer - ie. they must purchase a full priced Lawn Lounge ticket also.

Q. How old can a child be in order to be included on a Family ticket?

A. Children must be aged no older than 13 years of age to be eligible for inclusion under a Family ticket. 

Q. What if our family has more than children than the allocation for the Family ticket?

A. You will need to purchase an additional child ticket or tickets according to the number of children you have.

Q. What age is a minor and what does it cost for them to enter?

A. A minor is any child aged 4 and under. Minors are welcome free of charge.
