Sunset Cinema St Ives is at the iconic St Ives Showground, on the Model Aeroplane Arena. Entry is via Mona Vale Road.
Once you enter the Showground precinct, there will be various parking areas close to the Model Aeroplane Arena.

General
Gates open at 6:30PM. The film starts at last light, you can check out when the sun sets HERE. As we are an outdoor cinema we need it to be dark for the film to be visible on the screen.

Absolutely! Sunset Cinema is the perfect place to enjoy a family night out or entertain the kids for a few hours.
As we are a licensed venue all minors (under 18 y.o) must be accompanied by a guardian.
Please be aware that we sometimes show films classified MA15+ (for the adults) which require children under 15 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian & R18+ films which require all patrons to be 18+.
To fully enjoy your Sunset Cinema experience, we suggest the following things:
– Layering up or bringing a blanket for those chillier summer nights.
– Insect repellent to keep those mozzies away!
– If you haven’t hired any seating then you are more than welcome to bring you own rugs, pillows, lawn chairs ect. Just be aware that taller chairs will be restricted to the back of the grounds so that everyone can see the screen.
– If it looks like it’s going to rain then a poncho is recommended as we will only cancel the session if the weather becomes heavy and dangerous. We will also have a limited amount of blankets available on-site for purchase. No open umbrellas are allowed during the screening.
– Friends, Family or Dates; Sunset Cinema is best enjoyed with others!
We love to see your snaps at Sunset Cinema. You can share them on Instagram with us by tagging @thesunsetcinema and using #imasunsetter & #sunsetcinema so we can see & repost them. However, we request that no professional recording equipment or flash photography is used during the film.
Sunset Cinema St Ives is now a classic sit-down picnic style outdoor cinema, the perfect way to enjoy a summer’s eve!
We are not currently running the Drive-In Cinema due to venue conditions unsuitable for vehicles.
Ticketing
You can purchase your tickets online. Simply select your session from our PROGRAM and then your tickets. We do not have an on-site box office and all tickets must be purchased before you arrive.
Yes. Simply show your tickets displayed on your phone at the gate. Just make sure you have them ready before you reach the gate to avoid unnecessary queues.
We accept gift vouchers / cards which were purchased during the 21/22 summer season. They will be valid until the end of the 22/23 summer season. You can use the same code during check out.

We understand that sometimes life can get in the way of a pre-planned night at Sunset Cinema. If you would like to swap your tickets to another session, simply:
- Go to your Sunset Cinema ACCOUNT and login
- Click ‘list tickets’
- Select the tickets you would like to swap and select ‘exchange’
- Follow the prompts to choose another session.
There is a $1.50 exchange fee on all tickets (excl seating) plus any price difference between the new and old ticket (excludes weather cancellation exchanges). Tickets cannot be exchanged for a transaction that is lesser value than the original. Tickets can only be exchanged up until 24 hours before the session time. Unfortunately tickets & seating are non-refundable.
You are able to exchange your tickets to another session. However, refunds are not available if you are no longer able to attend or change your mind.
General admission for children under 3 is free. They do not require any type of ticket for general admission. However, if you would like them to have a bean bag or entry to the Lawn Lounge then you will need to purchase these.
The Tim Tam Lounge is the premium way to experience Sunset Cinema. Add a Tim Tam Lounge upgrade to your general admission ticket and you will receive a reserved bean lounger, seating in a prime viewing area & bottomless popcorn.
We’d love for you to check out the Tim Tam Lounge! If you already have a general admission tickets, then simply go back to the screening page that you are attending and select the Tim Tam Lounge upgrade.
Our ticketing provider charges a $1.60 booking fee per admission ticket. If you decide to exchange your ticket then there is also a $1.50 exchange fee for tickets (excl seating).
We recognise most concession and carers cards. If you have a concession card; including full time student, senior and government issued pension/ health cards, then choose the concession ticket. If you have a carers card then you are entitled to 1 complimentary ticket, simply show your card at the box office to gain entry. To redeem a discount code or ticket voucher/complimentary pass (excluding Gift Cards) simply:
- Select your preferred screening
- Enter your unique Code and Validate
- Select your discounted or complimentary ticket and Add To Cart
- Follow to prompts to proceed to checkout and complete the transaction
Please check the terms and conditions of each voucher as they may differ.
Weather
We only cancel screenings in seriously foul weather where danger presents itself to our patrons and staff, such as thunder, extreme heat or even occasionally during a fire ban.
Our team has a lot of experience when it comes to weather. The event managers onsite are constantly checking the weather radar and the conditions at the location, which may differ from those at your home.
If you contact us, we will not be able to give you any more information if we have not announced the cancellation. It is best to wait for us to contact you. If you do not hear from us, the screening is going ahead.
If we cancel your screening we will:
- SMS the mobile number of the person who booked your ticket (hopefully they’ll share this with you if that wasn’t you).
- Put a CANCELLED message across the screening page on the website.
- Email the person who booked your ticket with instructions on how to exchange your tickets (see next FAQ)

Damn! We had to cancel the screening. You would have received a text message & email from us. The full value of your booking will be transferred to a voucher which is redeemable for screenings across all our locations this season (Summer 2022/23). Don’t worry, you won’t get charged an exchange fee for a cancelled session. If you have any questions or need a hand redeeming your voucher just reach out to us via info@sunsetcinema.com.au
Eat & Drink
No. Sunset Cinema is a fully licensed event with alcohol only available if purchased at our Snack Bar on-site.
There is a fantastic range of food and drinks available every screening night. Ranging from popcorn, sweets, non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks at our Snack Bar to hot meal options at one of our food vendors. Hot food can be ordered through our QR code and you will receive a text message when it is ready to pick up.
Venue

You can bring your furry best friend along to the cinema with you. However, all pets must be kept on their leash at all times and you must clean up after them.
If you’re still on-site and can’t find something, report it to one of our staff and leave your details.If you have already left the cinema, send us an email at info@sunsetcinema.com.au and we will have our staff look for you.
COVID-19
Sunset Cinema is registered as a COVID Safe Business with the NSW Government in line with the current restrictions and guidelines.
Seating
We have a range of seating options available to hire online and sometimes at the venue. CLICK HERE to see the range. We recommend purchasing them early online as they often sell-out.
There is also a limited amount of fold out chairs available to hire onsite.
Of course, picnic rugs, pillows and lawn chairs are welcome at Sunset Cinema.
We want you to be as comfy as possible but please be aware that if your seating is high and will restrict other’s viewing then we will ask that you sit towards the back or to one side of the audience area.
Gift Cards
Our e-gift cards are redeemable for anything available to purchase online. This includes tickets and seating.

- Choose your tickets, add them to your cart & proceed to checkout
- Sign up or login to our ticketing provider
- Enter your Gift Card code under ‘Gift Card Code’ in payment methods and click APPLY
- Complete transaction & enjoy the film!
All our Gift Cards are usable for the full period of the 2022 – 2023 Sunset Cinema season and expire at the end of the season. Please make sure you check the location’s exact screening dates as they differ at each location. Please be aware that any un-used amount cannot be refunded.
